hawaii50ficfinderLooking a fic I read a long time ago. I can't even remember what it was about. But there was a scene where Kono and Steve are drinking longboards at her place. Steve might have asked or Kono might have just been thinking about it, but Kono was secretly relieved that she got injured and couldn't surf anymore. Her mentor explain that he was as good as he was at surfing because he lost his guy. That the mentor explained that when you're little your parents tell you to stop playing in the water, to come in and eat dinner, and when you get older, some people learn to do it for themselves, while other have a guy, someone to do that stuff for you, and the mentor lost his guy. This made Kono secretly glad that she was injured because then she would never have to worry about finding and/or losing her guy.
It was probably a gen story, but it could have been slash. If it was slash it would be Danny/Steve, but I don't remember Danny being in the story at all. That's all I got. No title, no nothing else, just the bit about losing your guy, and that Steve and Kono were in the scene, and at one point, they were drinking longboards.
If you can find it, that's remarkable. If not, this was kind of a last ditch effort any way. :)

It's an AU where Danny works for the mob in Hawaii, but falls in love with Steve who is working for the taskforce.
